We need to learn this lesson from our Enemy. He never gives up! Again, in His unfathomable way, God obliged him. He must have been congratulating himself when he covered Job with disgusting, painful sores from head to toe. Have you ever met someone who suffered as much as Job did?
Traditionally, our people had two reasons for worshipping their pagan gods. One was to protect them and their families from enemies and tragedies. The other was to ensure their personal welfare by making them healthy and prosperous. Sadly, those are the two reasons some people preach as the Gospel of Jesus Christ even today: “health and wealth.”. What if the exact opposite happens in their lives? That means the gods had failed, and there was no further reason to worship them. That was the logic of Job’s wife (Job 2:9). Have you noticed that people who blame God when things go wrong never thank Him for all the many good things in their lives? Job, very clearly, had a different understanding of God. He lost his fortune, his children, and his health, and he was still able to bless the name of the Lord (Job 2:9)!
